Brittany Yvette Griner was born in the city of Houston, Texas, U.S.A on October 18th, 1990. Her father Raymond Griner is a retired deputy sheriff and her mother Sandra Griner is a homemaker.
Britney knew from an early age that she was attracted to girls and because that didn’t fit in with the preconceived notion that many people had back then for girls attending Middle School. She was often taunted and referred to as a boy.
The worst times came in 7th grade and at the end of far too many school days. Brittany would retire to a room to cry and question why she was even alive in the first place.
Thankfully in the ninth grade while attending Chester W Nimitz Senior High School in Houston, she discovered the sport of basketball, something that gave her both purpose and passion during her sophomore year.
Griner would practice with the boys basketball team, developing her leg strength and learning how to dunk.

Griner got engaged to Glory Johnson, her fellow WNBA player in 2014. The couple tied a knot on May 8, 2015.
Glory was pregnant on June 4, 2015 and gave birth to twin girls on October 12 of the same year. The couple seperated in June 2016.
Later in 2018, Griner engaged to Cherelle Watson who changed her name to Cherelle Griner after marriage in June 2019.

Brittney Griner got to the University of her choice, Baylor University. Things got even worse upon arriving on campus. Brittany never tried to hide the fact that she liked girls but as a member of a Baptist University located in Waco, Texas, she was quickly instructed by Baylor officials to keep quiet about her prom activities.
Brittany was a Baylor Bear icon and on her way to becoming the most decorated female college basketball player in history with NCAA records in blocks and dunks as well as having scored over 3200 points in 4 years.
She was arguably the most dominant player in the history of Women’s College Basketball and she even once led the team to a perfect 40-0 campaign in the 2011-2012 season. Brittany’s absolute dominance as a college player led her to being selected as the number one draft pick in the WNBA by the Phoenix Mercury in 2013.
